Crispy butter roasted and baked bacon #19/54

Recipe – Best method for making crispy bacon

Ingredients: (about 300 grams)

  • 300 grams of bacon
  • Butter for roasting

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the bacon by cutting it into slices suited for your end use.
  2. To prevent sticking use butter on your frying pan. Also use a pan that has a thick bottom that can distribute heat evenly, so the bacon gets evenly fried. Cast iron pans or quality stainless steel pans are great for roasting bacon.
  3. To prevent burning the bacon use low heat and simmer fry it for longer on both sides.
  4. When a bacon piece is roasted to your satisfaction on both sides transfer the piece to an ovenproof dish and bake the bacon pieces for an additional 40 minutes in an over at 80 to 120 degrees Celsius or 176 to 248 degrees Fahrenheit.
  5. Done.


Important observations:

To speed up roasting the bacon consider using several pans at the same time. Cranking up the heat is a poor strategy for making the bacon pieces faster. They get far more delicious at low heat and you do not risk burning them.


Serving suggestions:

Crispy bacon pieces can be served as a predinner snack for your guests. It will be a guaranteed hit among all the non-vegetarians. I also use it as toppings for my lunch dish with chicken salat on Scandinavian rye bread (video forthcoming). Another of my favorites use cases is the Danish lunch dish where you got a roasted slice of Scandinavian rye bread with butter on and a cut warm Danish meat ball on top served with roasted bacon, remoulade and pickled cucumber salat.
